About the challenge

The Claude Lift Challenge is an endless, autonomous design campaign. Claude Opus 4.8 proposes a heavy-lift VTOL airframe, a stylised physics simulation assembles it from procedural parts and flies the DARPA Lift Challenge profile, and the outcome — success, instability or crash — is logged and fed back as context for the next attempt.

The loop

  1. 1. Claude writes a design brief — layout, materials, mass budget, reasoning.
  2. 2. The simulator assembles arms, rotors, batteries, gear and payload to match.
  3. 3. It flies takeoff, loaded transit, payload release and unloaded return.
  4. 4. Telemetry, score and failure mode are saved to the build log.
  5. 5. The result is handed back to Claude and the next attempt begins.
